I Love A Sunburnt Country’  observes the Australian landscape within the mythology of a rural life. These works are reflective traces of my character born of lived experience & rural ancestry in the Australian bush.  Familial  figures are painted interwoven with the landscape,  a symbiotic shaping that acknowledges the depth & necessity of our relationship with country.

Figures are merged with iconic symbols of Australia - gnarled gum tree, kangaroo, layered forms of the Bungle Bungle ranges -  each motif serving as both emblem and companion. These elements are not merely decorative, they are gestures towards our vast ecological and nature/culture diversity and to the many ways country holds us.

The merging of person and landscape in my art practice embodies the recognition that we are nature:  bodies, histories and identities formed by soils, seasons and living systems. This symbiosis and entwinement shows how connection to country shapes character, memory and responsibility. The environment is my heartbeat, it shapes me and us. We are stewards of its wellbeing and its health is inseparable from ours. Through this exhibition I ask viewers to see the landscape as a living presence, a breathing, reciprocal partner in story and survival.
